Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore let us also, having so great a ^1acloud of ²witnesses surrounding us, put away every ³encumbrance and the ^4bsin which so easily entangles us and ^crun with ^dendurance the ⁵race [course] which is set before us,

2 ¹Looking away ^aunto ²Jesus, the ^3bAuthor and ⁴Perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the ^ccross, despising the ^dshame, and has ^5esat down on the right hand of the ^fthrone of God. 

1⁵ The Christian life is a race [a course]. All the saved Christians must run the race to win the prize (1 Cor. 9:24), not salvation in the common sense (Eph. 2:8; 1 Cor. 3:15) but a reward in a special sense (10:35; 1 Cor. 3:14). The apostle Paul ran the race and won the prize (1 Cor. 9:26-27; Phil. 3:13-14; 2 Tim. 4:7-8).
